Atiku: Jonathan is chasing shadow over Boko Haram.Do you agree?

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed President Goodluck Jonathan’s claim of success against Islamist Boko Haram as “mere chasing of shadows”, after armed men killed at least 29 students in Yobe State on Tuesday.
The gunmen struck at the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Gujiba Local Government Area of Yobe State early morning, less than 12 hours after the president told the nation how successful his government’s strategy against the insurgents had proved.
More than 250 people have been killed in multiple attacks by the group in Borno State this year alone. In separate incidents, armed men raided remote villages, shooting terrified residents who tried to flee.
Witnesses say security forces were never on hand to protect the people in attacks that often lasted hours.
Mr. Jonathan has come under increasing pressure to act more forcefully to protect civilians and end the bloodshed in the north east states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, terrorised by Boko Haram. The three states are already under emergency rule.

The governor of the worst-hit state, Borno, Kashim Shettima, said last week the militants were better armed and motivated than the Nigerian military, drawing a strong rebuttal from the presidency.
Mr. Jonathan again rebuked the governor Monday night during his televised interview with journalists, calling the statement “unfortunate”, and insisting his government was winning the war against Boko Haram.
“The issue of the governor of Borno State, the statement is a bit unfortunate,” the president said. “I don’t expect a governor to make this kind of statement and if the governor of Borno State felt that the Nigerian armed forces are not useful he should tell Nigerians, I will pull them out for one month whether he will stay in that his Government House. But, if he thinks what he said is correct then I will pull out the armed forces for one month.”
He said he was not considering sending a military administrator to act as governor in Borno State.
The president said security operatives were working hard though people would not always consider the successes being recorded by the military in the north east region.
“It is not as if the state operatives are not working. The Boko Haram attacks started from Abuja, these massive bombings – UN Building here, the Police headquarters was bombed here in Abuja, a market was bombed. So, if the security was not working hard I think we would have even felt it in Abuja. So we are working….we will get over it,” he said.
But former Vice President Abubakar said Mr. Jonathan had failed to curb the slaughter of innocent people who live perpetually in fear, but had chosen to claim credit for pushing the insurgents to the “fringes”.
If the president cannot provide security for schools, then he was chasing shadows, he added.
“This will not be the first time in recent times that school children are being attacked, and it is particularly disheartening that the Federal Government is yet to devise a strategy of keeping our schools safe from terror attacks. If our counter-insurgency strategies are not strong enough to keep our children safe inside their schools, then one must wonder if such a strategy isn’t mere chasing shadows,” Mr. Abubakar said.
Mr. Abubakar urged the government to raise its counter-insurgency response. “My heartfelt condolences go to families of the slain school pupils. It is unfortunate that innocent school children, will become victims of armed attacks.”.

Sanusi drags President Goodluck Jonathan before a Federal High Court in Abuja

Aso Rock Action film season 1! lets watch out and see how it will end. Sanusi Sue GEJ over suspension.
Culled from PMnews.
Suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has dragged President Goodluck Jonathan before a Federal High Court in Abuja over his suspension from office, fulfilling his desire to test the limits of presidential power over incumbent central bank chiefs.
The ousted bank boss is urging the court to restrain the President, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police from giving effect to his purported suspension from office as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, pending the determination of his suit.
He also wants the court to make an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants from
obstructing, disturbing, stopping or preventing him from in any manner whatsoever from performing the functions of his office as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and enjoying in full, the statutory powers and privileges attached to the office of the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria.
In the suit filed on behalf of the ousted CBN boss by his lawyers led by Chief Kola Awodein, a senior advocate of Nigeria, Sanusi told the court that his interlocutory application is necessary because of the issues raised in the suit and that delay may likely entail irreparable and serious damage and mischief on him in the exercise of his statutory duties as the CBN Governor.
He urged the court to exercise its discretion in his favour by granting the interlocutory injunctions as the President’s continuing unlawful interference with the management and administration of the apex bank, unless arrested, poses grave danger for Nigeria’s economy and justifies the court granting his application which will result in maintaining status quo ante bellum, that is, for his return to his office as the Governor of the CBN.
In the affidavit deposed in support of his application, the suspended CBN boss averred that in the course of his duties as the CBN Governor, that he discovered certain discrepancies in respect of amounts repatriated to the federation account from the proceed of crude oil sales between the period of January, 2012 and July, 2013 and that he expressed concern in respect of the said discrepancies and had cause to inform the National Assembly of the said discrepancies because theyy affect the revenue of the federation and the national economy.
He further stated that the actions of President Goodluck Jonathan, in purporting to suspend him from office, is aimed at punishing him for these disclosures.
He also stated that he is challenging the President’s power to suspend him from office noting that the President did not approach nor obtain the support of the senate, based on his discussions with several senators, including Senator Bukola Saraki.
“I have been informed, and I verily believe the information given to me by Senator Bukola Saraki to be true and correct that the senate did not give the President any support for my purported suspension and removal from office as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria”
Sanusi further stated that the actions of the President in suspending him from office is contrary to provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act relating to the appointment and removal of the CBN Governor and that his purported suspension amounts to unlawful interference in the administration and management of the apex bank and is illegal, null and void and urged the court, in the interest of justice, to grant his reliefs.
The suit which was filed late Monday afternoon is still at the Federal High Court’s Registry in Abuja awaiting to be assigned to a judge for hearing of the suit.
President Jonathan in an interview Monday night argued that he has the power as the president to suspend the CBN governor. He even described his power as absolute

Commercial Bikeman to die by hanging over missing NYSC member

Justice they say is a concept involving the fair, moral, and impartial treatment of all person. That exactly what Ekiti High Court granted late Miss Anthonia Okeke, a National Youth Service Corps member who was serving at Ilawe Ekiti in 2008.

I remembered  my wife telling me a story of an NCCF MAMA who was kidnapped and murdered during their service year in Ekiti State. This young woman was murdered by a motorcyclist who was taking care of her Logistics activities. On 19th December 2008 Miss Anthonia was planning to travel for Christmas Holiday, she made arrangement with Pius the motorcyclist for a drop. Pius arranged with his group who used her for ritual.
Six years after her death, Pius has been sentenced to death by hanging. culled from vanguardng

This was the verdict of an  Ikere Ekiti  High Court presided over by Justice Adegoriola Adeleye.
In the case that lasted six years, the judge equally sentenced Pius to 10 years imprisonment for kidnapping Anthonia, which ultimately led to her death in the hands of ritualists.
Anthonia, a Chemical Engineering graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, who lost her father, Pa Raphael Okeke, to stroke last month, owing to the circumstances of her disappearance, was

kidnapped  in Ilawe Ekiti in Ekiti South-West Local Government Area of Ekiti State on December 19, 2008 by Pius and his gang during his service year.

The late corps member  is from Umuno Ndiuno  in Ezeagu Local Government of Enugu State.
Delivering his judgment, yesterday, Justice Adeleye said he found the evidence adduced by the Director of Public Prosecution from the state Ministry of Justice, Mr Adeleye Familoni, against Pius as having probative value and reliable enough to convince him that the accused person was guilty of the case.
He said: “I want to submit that the prosecution counsel has been able to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt. He has been able to establish that the defendant is culpable and no criminal shall go unpunished in the face of law.”
Justice Adeleye, therefore, ruled that Pius should die by hanging, having found him guilty of murder, even as Pius is to serve 10 years jail term for his complicity in the kidnap of the late corps member.
Commenting on the judgment, Anthonia’s elder brother, Mr Obinna Okeke, said the judgment had proved that those with criminal intentions cannot have their way as long as the government is determined to apply the relevant laws against them in a diligent manner.
He thanked the state Ministry of Justice, the police, human rights groups and the NYSC for their doggedness in the pursuit of the case.
Also, the state DPP, Mr Familoni, in his comment hailed the judgment, saying  it was a victory against evil doers and those who are desirous of making money through fraudulent means
He added that the ministry will continue to help the society in tightening noose against those with criminal tendencies in the state.
